THE ENSIGN MESSAGE

TRUTH NEVER CHANGES

By

New Zealand

Truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth is absolute.  It cannot change.  It is the antecedent of falsehood, since falsehood arose from hatred of the truth. The Lord Most High God is truth absolute since He is the one and only living God who “is not a man that He should lie; neither the son of man that he should repent; hath he said and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken and shall he not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19)

All of us, at one time or another, have believed we have a true understanding of either a particular incident, or precept, only to find, sooner or later, that we have had only a partial comprehension which completely colours our thinking and causes us to experience a change in attitude and ideas, for better  or for worse.

“What is truth”? (John 18:38) Pilate was a very confused man. He found it exceedingly difficult to condemn our Lord to death when he could find no fault in Him. The Jews, so called, had no such doubts. They were determined that Jesus should be killed once and for all but to crucify Him themselves they would not do since their “law” forbad them to kill men.   (John 18:31).  Quite contradictorily, however, in Matthew 27:25 in their demand for His crucifixion they shout “His blood be upon us and upon our children”. On the one hand they paid lip service to their law but, on the other hand, denied it by their actions when in a desperate attempt to  extinguish the truth.

The scriptures start with the words “In the  beginning………….” proclaiming briefly the creation story. Scientists and theologians have forever argued the truth of how it all began whether one day could be 24 hrs or a thousand years, while others have declared there was a “big bang”. Whatever one’s personal beliefs these arguments fail to appreciate the whole truth, which may not ever be fully u nderstood until after the return of our Lord.

1 John 1:8-9 says “If we say that we have no sin we deceive ourselves, and the truth  is not  in us”. While the “ravening wolves dressed in sheep’s clothing” and genuine sheep contaminated by wolfish doctrines hold responsible government positions earning excessive salaries (which are a camouflaged bribe to keep them there) we are a deceived people to the point where the whole truth is extremely difficult to find.

Jesus said (John 8.32) “…   …and ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free”. Free from what? Principally it is to be free from the curse of oppression by enemy peoples. Nonetheless in the normal journey of life it is also to be free from the curses of poverty, of sickness and disease, of intimidation by murderers and rapists, thieves and the warring enemy. The truth is not only to know God’s laws but to practise them daily. A General Confession in the Book of Common Prayer says, “we have offended against thy holy laws, we have left    undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done; and there is no health in us.”

Our hospitals today have never been so busy and waiting lists for initial appointments and subsequent operations grow ever longer. In 1912 there was an influenza epidemic in Britain. The London hospitals were having patients delivered to them non-stop as people fell in the street. Ambulances simply took patients to the nearest  hospital  with  the  result  that the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital in Great Ormond Street received an equal number of patients. When the epidemic  subsided  figures  were  released by all hospitals as to the percentage of deaths. The death rate in the orthodox hospitals  was about  54% but only about 17% in the homeopathic . Certain MPs stood up in Parliament and  demanded  that homeopathy be given full accreditation. Homeopathy today is able to be treated under the National Health system i n the U K although the homeopathic hospitals have been systematically closed.

Homeopathy however is complex and requires much diligence on the part of the physician as well as the patient. Small, apparently insignificant details, such as a headache before a storm, or impaired vision announcing the onset of a migraine headache may be helpful in distinguishing one remedy from another. These remedies have not changed in 4,000 years! Amica is still used for superficial bruising, and Ruta Graveolens for sprains etc. Many more remedies have continued to be researched and included in the Materia Medica as hitherto unknown and unrecognised diseases have appeared. Whilst the physiology of man himself has not changed , man himself has invented and manufactured vast numbers of products some of which, in the long run, have proved exceedingly harmful causing deformities in the developing foetus thereby laying a huge burden on parents and societies for the disabled, to say nothing of the many side effects from taking certain drugs.

“Where there is no vision the people perish; but he that keepeth the law happy is he” (Proverbs 29:13.) Those of us who keep the law in letter and in spirit generally enjoy better health. Whilst the medical profession has advanced greatly in its techniques with operations such as keyhole-surgery, streamlining to the extent that hospital  stays  are  considerably  reduced, nonetheless researchers are for ever introducing new and better”medicines which are said to act faster for common disorders such as hay fever, asthma, athletes foot, colds and headaches etc, yet whilst alleviating the uncomfortable condition temporarily, rarely do anything in the way of a cure. Truly we can say with Timothy in his second book 3:9 “…ever learning and never able to come to a knowledge  of  the truth.”

Some fifty years ago I attended the Hospital for Nervous Diseases in Russell Square suffering some fits, known as petit-mal, the result of a concussion some years earlier. For six years I took dramamine, pheno-barbitone   and  phenytoin.    On  the  rare occasions when the medication was inadvertently missed, the fits would return. After I had been introduced to homeopathy in New Zealand, I suffered one of these fits. The homeopathic remedy given once cured the fits and I have  suffered  none since.

An octogenarian friend of mine who suffered Poliomyelitis for five years in his late teens and early twenties was given three maximum doses of quinine daily  for  the  duration  of  his  illness.   Recently  he  underwent surgery for the removal of his spleen which was so enlarged as to be life threatening. It weighed just over 4kg. He is extremely  fortunate  to be alive and friends and family consider it a miracle.  It is just as well that quinine is no longer used in the treatment of Polio as the Homeopathic Materia Medica is quite definite in that quinine will  enlarge the spleen! Malaria is another illness which is able to be cured homeopathically.

The problem with homeopathy is that doctors find it hard to believe these remedies will have any effect because of the low quantity needed . Four drops of the remedy in 10ml of water and 10ml of alcohol such as Vodka or Rum is all that is needed. The potency is raised by succusion knocking the base of the bottle onto the heel of the hand ten to twelve times. After the 12th potency, however, the remedy is untraceable with the result that researchers proclaim no remedy exists. We have only to examine the clinical results to know and appreciate the healing power of homeopathy. It is the patient himself who knows the benefits. Sometimes only one or two doses are needed for a chronic condition. A change in remedy or potency may be necessary two or three years later if the condition returns, or other symptoms  develop.

Luke 16:10 says “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much; and  he  that  is unjust in the  least  is unjust  also  in much.”  Because of the “Magic of the Minimum Dose” homeopathy is exceedingly cheap compared with modern medicines. There is no real  profit  to  be  gained  and for this reason there are enemies who fight against it. Animals are not used in cruel experiments, healthy humans volunteering to test new remedies, whilst pharmaceutical companies cause abject misery to animals in their experimentation for remedies to fight cancer etc. This brings us to 1 Timothy 6:10 “for the love of money is the root of all evil; which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced   themselves   through with   many sorrows.”

The Word of God is despised and hated by many.  It has been in existence for over 6,000 years because it is truth and light and cannot be hid. Men have tried to stamp it out but it has survived because it reveals a truth as no other book has done. Men have changed its meaning in order to deceive but those who understand it are able to perceive its truthfulness.

Authors such as Hans Christian Andersen, Brothers Grimm and C S Lewis have written stories which continue to delight, especially to those able to discern the validity of their truth in today’s modern world. Poets and authors like Rudyard Kipling Charles Dickens and John Milton have all made their contribution as well as playwrights like Shakespeare. Milton once wrote “let truth and falsehood grapple; whoever knew truth put to the worse in a free and open encounter”.

In music too we have the great masters such as Handel, Beethoven, Mozart, Bach to name a few whose music persists with us today because it has a rhythm and a beat which is pure, satisfying and calming the innermost being of the soul. It is in direct contrast to heavy metal, pop songs etc which are constantly changing to satisfy the craven mind.

“The law of the lord is perfect converting the soul” (Psalm 19:5). That which is perfect is the truth. The law that God gave to his chosen people has not changed since that time because it has no need to change, other tha n to bring the means of transportation, for instance, into the present day. The fundamental laws of nature, night and day, the seasons, the tides have not changed because there is no need to change. There is a perfect imbalance of nature which protects and stimulates the environment. Changes in nature have occurred due to pollution by man’s sinfulness.

John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the father but by me.”

Matthew 7:14  “Enter ye  in at the  strait  gate,  for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction and many there be that go in thereat. Because strait is the gate and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life and few there be that find it.”

There are two ways only; the broad way or the narrow way. The broad way encourages man to think he can do as he pleases, viz, marrying somebody of the same sex and being allowed to bring up children in that environment without appreciating the detrimental psychological effects on the child. The broad way allows certain business types to follow sharp practice. It encourages people to make every effort to gain as much money as possible regardless of the undue consequences on society in general.   It is a selfish way which squanders the savings of the poor; even their own health when cancers and other terminal conditions arise.

The narrow way, on the other hand, puts other people first, encourages sensible and careful living, to use and develop skills for the benefit of society as a whole. The narrow way does not waste time, other than leisure for refreshment of body, does not waste money on trivialities which have no value for health or education. Rather the narrow way enjoys freedom from sickness, both mental and physical and enables us to enjoy genuine lasting happiness.

When considering the question ‘what is the truth?’ we must always look at both sides of the coin studying the pros and cons carefully and prayerfully. Then indeed we learn that “His word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path”.  Psalm 109:105.

Truth stands for ever. It is light and the darkness cannot shut it out. Truth is like oil, it always comes to the surface.
