THAT ROCK WAS CHRIST (ANOINTED)
IN Westminster Abbey, in St Edward’s Chapel, stands an ancient Coronation Chair, built by Master Walter of Durham, by order of Edward I. It was made for a special purpose.Four years earlier, in 1296 at Montrose, Edward had captured the Stone of Scone from the Scots. The chair was made especially to house this Stone. In a pictorial history of Westminster Abbey, Canon Adam. Fox, D.D., formerly the SubDean of Westminster, wrote that ”According to legend, this was the Stone upon which Jacob laid his head and dreamed his dream.”
A.R.Millard,in his booklet THE BIBLE B.C WHAT CAN ARCHAEOLOGY PROVE? shows that all traces of many cities were lost, and modern scholars called the stories about them LEGENDS. Mr Millard writes:
“In our own country, Icelandic sagas or legends copied during the 15th and 16th centuries, of Vikings in America, were the only hint of extended Norse exploration. Scholars were divided in their thinking, and many said these legends could not have had a factual basis. Archaeological ‘digs’ in 1961-68 in Newfoundland proved these sagas true.”
HERITAGE CANADA magazine for October 1979, contained an article entitled WHEN DID THE CELTS ARRIVE? It suggests that Canada was ‘discovered’ 2000 years ago by the Celts. The NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC for December 1977 had a most interesting article showing that the voyage was entirely possible which LEGEND says Saint Brenden made in A.D. 507.
Herodotus, 5th century B.C. wrote many strange things about marvels in far places, which in the 19th century were frequently reckoned to be unreliable. Although Herodotus was the sole source of that information, physical evidence can now be set beside his words. His statements are repeatedly supported; those who suspected exaggeration admit his accuracy…
At Petroglyphs Provincial Park, northeast of Peterborough, Ontario, is a huge rock which has been inscribed by an ancient people. Professor Barry Fell has examined it, and has been able to read its message. It tells of a King Woden-Lithi of Norway, who came to that area 1800 years B.C.
Cyrus Gordon, who wrote the book, BEFORE COLUMBUS, stated that a people known as the SEA PEOPLE, bore the name of DAN.On pages 108 to 111 he has this to say:
“The Bible tells how a segment of the seafaring Danites (Judges 5:17) won their way into the tribal system of ancient Israel. The Danites were widespread. Cyprus was called IADNAN, ‘The Island of Dan(an).’ The same people were called Danuna, and under this name they appear as rulers of the Plain of Adana in Cilicia. Greek tradition has their ancestor Danaos migrating from the Nile Delta to Greece where he became King of Argos. For centuries, the Greeks called themselves Danoi. Bold scholars see the influence of the Danites in Irish lore about the goddess Danu; and in the name of DANmark (Denmark), the land of Dan.”
In 1928, when I first saw the Coronation Chair, and was not aware of the Israel Identity of Great Britain, I remember very clearly that in front of the chair was a small sign upon which was written a short poem. It mentioned the name of Jacob, and associated the Stone with him.
“Unless the fates are faithless grown,
And Prophet’s voice be vain;
Where’er is found this sacred stone
The Wanderers’ Race shall reign.”
This ‘legend’ has been scoffed at, fully as much as at those legends of Celtic voyagers, or Cyrus Gordon’s Sea People of Dan, or Barry Fell’s reading of the Stone of Woden-Lithi. My reading of Sir Walter Scott’s poem translation was a startling revelation to me. Not until a number of years later did the poem have any real meaning for me. Then, there were so many questions to be asked. Where did it come from? How can it be traced through history? Why are the rings at each end of the Stone worn so badly? History tells us that the Stone came from Scotland to England in A.D.1296. How did it come to Scotland?
In Webster’sNew Intemational Dictionary, published in 1957 under the heading CORONATION STONE, is this information. “The Stone of Scone, or Stone of Destiny, upon which the Scottish Kings sat at Coronation – See ‘Lia Fail’.”
Turning to this, the Dictionary defines LIA FAIL as: “A Stone on which the ancient kings of Ireland were crowned. It is believed to have passed with Irish colonists to Scotland in the 6th century A.D., and was there later identified with the Coronation Stone.”
If the Stone was taken to Scotland during the 6th century, and taken to England in the 13th century, then it rested in Scotland for 700 years. From secular records it can be traced to at least A.D.500, and before that it was in Ireland. How did it arrive in Ireland if the legend states it was the Stone upon which Jacob laid his head? Jacob lived in Palestine, not in Ireland. To answer this question, it will be necessary to start at the beginning of this story… a familiar one to many of you, and to do so we must turn to the only source of this information about Jacob … the Bible.
Genesis 25:23 tells in detail the story of the births of Esau and Jacob, twin sons of Isaac and Rebekah. God told Rebekah:
“Two nations are in thy womb … and the ELDER shall serve the YOUNGER.”
Esau was born first, and then Jacob, who took hold of his brother’s heel. Esau possessed the birthright, but thought so little of it that he sold it to Jacob for some food. Jacob did not STEAL the birthright from Esau, who said “What good is this birthright to me?” Today some people ask the same question of those of us who value our inheritance in Anglo-CeIto-Saxon lands, and our inheritance in the coming Kingdom of God. “What good is this Israel message?” they ask, thus despising their birthright.
We know the story of how Isaac asked Esau to hunt for some venison, so that he might eat and give Esau his blessing; and of how Rebekah told Jacob to take Esau’s place, and take food to his father, and of how Isaac blessed Jacob, thinking it was Esau, thus robbing Esau of the birthright blessing. In this blessing, Isaac said to Jacob (Genesis 28:14):
“GodAlmighty bless thee and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee that thou mayest be a multitude of people: and give thee the BLESSING OF ABRAHAM, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave to Abraham.”
Jacob had to leave Beersheba, and never saw his mother again. He went towards Haran. Genesis 28:11 tells how he reached a certain place and stopped for the night. Taking ONE OF THE STONES THERE, he put it for his pillows and lay down to sleep. (that was in 1,760 B.C.) We are all familiar with the Bible story of the dream Jacob had, and how the ladder rested on the earth, and reached to heaven, with the angels of God ascending and descending on it. Above it stood the LORD,and HE spoke to Jacob in a dream:
“I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. Thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west and to the east, and to the north and to the south, and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee back again into the land; for I will not leave thee, until Ihave done that which I have spoken to thee of”
Jacob awoke out of sleep, and he said, “Surely the LORD is in this place and I knew it not.” And he was afraid and said: “How dreadful is this place! This is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”
Early the next morning, JACOB TOOK THE STONE HE HAD PLACED UNDER HIS HEAD, AND SET IT UP AS A PILLAR AND POURED OIL ON TOP OF IT. He called that place BETHEL.That was about 3,700 years ago. Jacob made a vow, saying:
“If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and raiment to put on so that I return to my father’s house, then the LORD shall be my God. THIS STONE THAT I HAVE SET FOR A PILLAR WILL BE GOD’S HOUSE, and of all that you give me, I will give you a tenth.”
What an amazing statement! THIS STONE WILL BE GOD’S HOUSE!! Having poured oil… a form of anointing … on the Stone, it would become a special treasure to Jacob and his descendants. Jacob had to leave the Stone at Bethel, for it would be too heavy to carry, as we shall see later on. He continued his journey to Haran, to his mother’s brother, Laban.
The Stone evidently had a special meaning to God as well, for 20 years later, after Jacob had spent that time working for his Uncle Laban, and had married Leah and Rachel and had prospered greatly, the angel of the LORD came to him and said (Genesis 31:13)
“I AM the God of Bethel, WHERE THOU ANOINTEDST “the” PILLAR AND WHERE THOU VOWEDST A VOW TO ME: now arise, and get thee out from the land, and return to the land of thy kindred.”
God made something special of the PILLAR which He reminded Jacob had been anointed.
Jacob obeyed God, and fled from Laban with all that he had, and crossing the river Euphrates, he headed for the hill country of GILEAD.(Genesis 32:1)
The time had now arrived when Jacob was going to meet Esau, from whom he had taken the blessing. (Genesis 32:6-7.) He was afraid of Esau, and more so when messengers he had sent to meet Esau came back and told Jacob that his twin brother was coming to meet him with 400 men. Jacob divided his family into two groups, hoping that if one group were attacked, the other might escape. This was the moment of truth for Jacob. The natural man in him had governed his life up to this moment. Now he saw God as his only source of deliverance, and truly turned in repentance to Him. He prayed,
“0 God of my father Abraham, God of my father Isaac, the LORD which saidest unto me, ‘Return unto thy country and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee:’ I am not worthy of the least of all mercies, and of all the truth, which Thou hast shewed unto Thy servant ..Deliver me, I pray Thee, from the hand of my brother…”
Jacob sent his family and all his goods and servants over the Brook Jabbok. Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him until daybreak. Seeing He could not overpower Jacob, He touched the socket of Jacob’s hip, so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled. Jacob told the Man: “I will not let Thee go except Thou bless me.” The Man said to him: “WHAT IS THY NAME?” and he said “Jacob”. The Man said, “Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men and hast prevailed.” Jacob carried a lasting reminder of this meeting with God, and of his change of name, for he was lame to the end of his life.
God caused Esau to greet Jacob with kindness, and he later left Esau and went to Shechem. At Shechem, God told Jacob, “Go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make an altar unto God that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau.” – (Genesis 35:1).
Jacob came to Luz, and all the people that were with him, and he built there an altar, and called the place EL-BETHEL (the God of Bethel). God appeared unto Jacob again and said to him:
“Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but ISRAEL shall be thy name: and He called his name Israel.”
God said unto him:
“I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; A NATION AND A COMPANY OF NATIONS SHALL BE OF THEE, AND KINGS SHALL COME OUT OF THY LOINS: and the land which I gave to Abraham. and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.” – (Genesis 35:9-12)
Jacob set up a pillar in the place where He talked with him, A PILLAR OF STONE: and he poured a drink offering thereon and he poured oil thereon. And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, BETHEL. In Genesis 28:22, Jacob had promised that the Stone which he had set for a pillar would be God’s House. If Jacob, on this return to Bethel, had left the Stone at Bethel, and not taken it with him, how could the Stone ever become God’s House? It had been twice anointed and a drink offering poured upon it. It would have been unthinkable that Jacob would not take the Stone with him.
The Stone of Israel being transported through the Wilderness of Sinai by the Israelites
It would be very precious to him and to all his descendants. It had witnessed the promise that God made to Jacob on his first visit to Bethel -or Luz as it was at that time. That second anointing with oil would be a double witness that the Stone would be set apart as an object of great worth. It would be preserved by Jacob-Israel’s family down through the centuries, even as we treasure any heirloom which has been passed on in our own families. Also, Jacob now had servants who could carry the stone. The Coronation stone weighs 458Ibs., so we see why Jacob had to leave it at Bethel before going to Haran.
Genesis 37 tells how Jacob dwelt in the land of Canaan with his wives and children. The son whom he loved most was Joseph, Rachel’s son. Joseph had been taken into Egypt, having been sold by his jealous brothers, but God saw to it that Joseph had Pharoah’s favour, and he became the first Minister in Egypt after Pharaoh, and a powerful man in Egypt. He later said he had been sent ahead to preserve life. A famine came and drove Jacob’s family into Egypt, where they lived in the best of the land.
In Genesis 46:1 we read that Israel took that journey into Egypt, WITH ALL THAT HE HAD, and that would include the Stone. That year was 1,706 B.C; 54 years after Jacob’s first visit to Bethel, and 34 years after the second anointing of the Stone. By now, 1.706 B.C., the Stone would be a symbol of the LORD GOD to Israel and to his family, even as, years later, Paul so recognized it when he said,
“Our fathers were under the cloud, and did all drink of that spiritual Rock that followed them -and THAT ROCK WAS CHRIST (anointed).” – (I Corinthians 10:4)
The time came when Israel was about to die. Joseph took his two sons, Manasseh, the elder and Ephraim, the younger son, to Israel for his blessing. The story can be read in Genesis 48, but we know that Israel crossed his hands, so that his right hand rested on Ephraim’s head, giving the younger son the premier blessing, saying that Ephraim would become a multitude of nations, and that Manasseh would be a great people. We remember that God had said to Jacob (Genesis 35:11) “a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins.” It was through Ephraim that the Company of Nations would come into being – our British Commonwealth of Nations today. Manasseh would eventually become the Great People of the United States of America. In Genesis 49, Israel gives his blessing to all his sons, but the major blessing belonged to Joseph, as the holder of the birthright. Another son also comes into the picture. Judah, of whom Israel prophesied: “The Sceptre shall not depart from Judah – until Shiloh come.” Judah is the ROYAL TRIBE into which our Saviour was born. Queen Elizabeth II can trace her ancestry back to King David of Israel, who was also of Judah. Whoever is the occupant of the throne of Great Britain at the time of the return of Christ, will hand the throne over to the King of kings. This also was prophesied to Israel- “Kings shall come out of thy loins.” When this transfer of the throne takes place, another prophecy will be fulfilled. The angel told Mary:“He shall be great and shall be called the Son of the Highest, and the LORD GOD shall give unto Him the throne of His father David, and He shall reign over the House of Jacob forever, and of His Kingdom there shall be no end.” – (Luke 1:32-31) You may be very sure that the Stone symbol of the Kingdom of God, the Rock that was Christ, will be very much in evidence. Jacob put the care of this Stone into the hands of Joseph. “From thence (Thenceforward) is the shepherd (caretaker) (of) the Stone of Israel.” Thence means ‘from that time’ the Stone was willed to Joseph, and after his death would pass into the care of his sons. The time came when God delivered the children of Israel from bondage in Egypt, through Moses, to whom God spoke in the burning bush. Over 3 million Hebrews left Egypt to go back to the land of Canaan. Can our minds grasp the immensity of this migration of people through a desert land? They were fed, given water, and their shoes and clothing lasted for 40 years. God opened the Red Sea for them, and sweetened the bitter waters of Marah. Some doubted the ability of God to take them into the Holy Land, which they could have entered in about 3 weeks’ time. On account of the doubters, it was 40 years before the Holy Land was reached.
Here my mind goes back to the sign in Westminster Abbey. Those words ‘The Wanderers’ race shall reign’ take on a new meaning.
Moses was able to talk to all these people at one time, both at Mt.Sinai and during their wanderings. It has been a mystery to me as to HOW they were able to hear his words. A program I heard a few years ago WHAT WILL THEY THINK OF NEXT? gave some interesting information. It said: “sound travels faster through rock than through air.” At Mt.Sinai, the rock of the mountain would be a natural form of amplification. But the children of Israel were often just in the desert. During the 40 years of wandering the Israelites had with them a ROCK.Could it be through the agency of this ROCK THAT WENT WITH THEM, that Moses’ words were heard by all the people? It was also from THE ROCK that the people were given drinking water. We mentioned a few minutes ago, that Paul spoke to the people of Corinth (1 Corinthians 10: 4) saying:
“Our fathers were under the cloud (that pillar of cloud by day and fire by night) and all passed through the Sea; and DID ALL DRINK OF THE SAME SPIRITUAL ROCK that followed them (went with them) AND THAT ROCK WAS CHRIST.”
When Paul wrote to the Corinthians, the words OUR FATHERS, it indicated that the Corinthians to whom he wrote were also Hebrews, or Israelites. Psalm 78:15,16 informs us that God, working through Moses, clave the ROCKS (plural) in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of great depths. God brought streams ALSO out of THE ROCK, that the water gushed out, and the streams overflowed. When did all this happen? If we turn to Exodus 17:1 we read:
“And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, and pitched in Rephidim; and there was no water for the people to drink.”
Moses cried unto the LORD, and the LORD said to Moses,
“Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the River, (Exodus 7:20) take in thine hand, and go.”
Exodus 17:6 says:
“I (God) will stand before thee UPON THE ROCK in Horeb; and thou shall smite the ROCK and THERE SHALL COME WATER OUT OF IT, that the people may drink.”
And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. This was in 1,491 B.C. according to the Scofield Reference Bible. It was 269 years after the first anointing of the Stone at Bethel.
Twenty years later, Numbers 20:1 tells us: “Then came the children of Israel even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin – and the people abode in Kadesh – and there was no water for the congregation. The LORD spake unto Moses saying: “Take the rod – gather the assembly together, thou and Aaron – and SPEAK YE TO THE ROCK before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the ROCK.”
Moses smites The Rock in the Wilderness
This time, Moses disobeyed, he was so angry. With his rod he SMOTE THE ROCK TWICE: saying
“Hear now ye rebels; must WE (Moses and Aaron) fetch you water out of this Rock?’ (Numbers 20: 11,12) and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank. The LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron: “Because ye believed Me not, to sanctify Me in the eyes of this congregation, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land that I have given them.”
Notice that when God told Moses to SMITE THE ROCK, the people were at HOREB near Rephidim, before they came to Mt Sinai. When Moses and Aaron were told to SPEAK to the ROCK, they were at least 160 miles north of Rephidim, at Kadesh-Barnea.
That the ROCK was the same ROCK, struck both at Rephidim. and Kadesh, there can be no doubt. As St. Paul said, “THAT ROCK WAS CHRIST”. The ROCK was a type of Christ, and when Moses struck it twice, it implied a second crucifixion.Christ died ONCE and that one sacrifice is suffIcient to deliver anyone who repents and who believes in Him, from everlasting death, and to give them eternal life. As a result of Moses’ and Aaron’s great disobedience in striking the ROCK instead of speaking to it, as God specifically told him, they were denied entry into the Land of Promise, and Aaron died at Mt. Hor, and Moses died at Mt. Nebo, east of the Jordan River.
The margin of 1 Corinthians 10:4 says that “the ROCK went with them”. It was able to be moved from one place to another. How was it carried? An example of the way it would have been carried is given in Exodus 25:15 when God instructs Moses to have staves put through rings of the Ark of the Covenant. In this way, the ROCK could be more easily transported. This also is an answer to the question, “Why are the rings so worn if the stone rested in Ireland, and also in Scotland, from about 585 BC? The only time the rings could have been worn so thinly was when it moved with the children of Israel during their wanderings in the desert.
After Moses’ death, Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem. He exhorted them to choose whom they would serve. (Joshua 24:15) Three times they declared that they would serve God.
Joshua made a covenant with the people that day. And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a GREAT STONE and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the LORD. Joshua said unto all the people:
“Behold, THIS STONE SHALL BE A WITNESS UNTO US; FOR IT HATH HEARD ALL THE WORDS OF THE LORD WHICH HE SPAKE UNTO US: IT SHALL THEREFORE BE A WITNESS UNTO YOU, LEST YE DENY GOD.”
This statement of Joshua’s is as remarkable as Jacob’s declaration that “THIS STONE WHICH I HAVE SET FOR A PILLAR SHALL BE GOD’S HOUSE.”
The stone which Joshua took might well have been Jacob’s stone. It had astonishing properties, in that it was to be a witness that had heard all the words of the LORD. How could it be a witness unless the words it had heard could somehow be taken out of it again?
In this modern age, that question can more readily be understood!!
We have tape cassettes which “HEAR”our every word that is said when the machine is tumed on. At our will, we have only to press a button, or tum a switch, and we hear again every word that was spoken. This can be done time and again just by rewinding and replaying the tape. If man’s ingenuity, under God, can give us tape recorders, why should it be thought impossible for God to use a Stone fo rthe same purpose? With God, nothing is impossible! Such a thing must be feasible, for Jesus made the statement that if people kept quiet about Him, the very stones would cry out! If we are to hear the LORD’S words to the people of Israel at Mt.Sinai and at Shechem, then the Stone will have to be accessible to us that we might hear.
It was evidently customary for the crowning of the King to take place BY A PILLAR. The Stone must have remained in the Temple, for we read in 2 Kings 11:14 of the young Prince Joash being made King over Judah, and “the King stood by the PILLAR, AS THE MANNER WAS.” This was in 884 BC. Also 2 Chronicles 23:13 says “The King stood at HIS PILLAR.”
At the crowning of the Sovereign these past several centuries, it has been, and is, the custom for the sovereign to be seated on the Coronation chair, OVER THE STONE, OR PILLAR. During the Coronation ceremony, no mention is made of the Stone. It is present as a silent witness.
Zedekiah was the last King of Judah to reign in Palestine. Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, invaded and captured Judah and Jerusalem, and took Zedekiah prisoner. All Zedekiah’s sons were killed before his eyes, and he himself, was blinded and taken captive to Babylon. Jeremiah was the Prophet at that time. In 629 BC he was commissioned by the LORD GOD (Jeremiah 1:10) “to root out, to pull down, to destroy, to BUILD AND TO PLANT.” The Bible story is clear about the destruction which was accomplished in Palestine, but it says nothing about the BUILDING or the PLANTING, which Jeremiah was also to do.
The prophet Jeremiah, was of Anathoth (Jeremiah 1:11)and his mission was to destroy, throw down, etc. and to build and plant which did not occur in Palestine. People have thought that he was related to Zedekiah King of Judah … of Libnah (Jeremiah 52:1), who was the father of Hamutal, and grandfather of Zedekiah).
As well as having sons, the king also had daughters, (Jeremiah 41:10; 43:6), and these girls were not harmed, for Nebuchadnezzar did not know that the Law of the LORD made a provision for females to inherit from their fathers if there were no male heirs (Numbers 27:7~8). There would be no break in the lineof rulers on the throne of David, for the King’s elder, or eldest daughter would automatically become Queen of Judah.
Ancient Irish Chronicles tell of a Prophet and his Scribe who arrived in Ireland about 585 B.C.They speak of . several articles brought with them, and in this way the Stone of Bethel was transported to Ireland! How else could the throne and Jacob’s PILLAR have been transported from Palestine to the BRITISH ISLES – those ISLES BEYOND THE Sea? (Jeremiah 25:22;31:10.) Jeremiah had pronounced concerning the throne, prophecy which has been fulfilled to this day (Jeremiah 33:17-21),
“Thus saith the LORD: David shall never want a man to sit upon the throne of the House of Israel.”
And
“If ye can break My covenant of the day, and My covenant of the night and that there should not be day and night in their season; then may also My covenant be broken with David My servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne.”
The very fact that a descendant of the House of David is currently ruling in Great Britain, and over the Commonwealth of Nations, is sure proof of the truth of God’s Covenant with David. (2 Samuel 7:16)
“Thine House, and thy Kingdom shall be established before thee forever: Thy throne shall be established for ever.”
That is sure proof that the throne of David has lasted, and WILL LAST, as long as night and day follow each other in their season. With Zedekiah a captive in Babylon, and the King’s Daughters in Jeremiah’s care, the throne of David was removed from Palestine. There are many traditions as to how that removal was accomplished. The main outline is that the King’s daughters and others, together with the Stone and other treasures, were taken by way of Spain and thence to Ireland, about 585-582 B.C.
The Stone was placed at Tara, where was the Royal residence of the King’s daughter (Tephi or Scota), and her husband, Eochaid, chief King of Ireland, who was descended from Zarah-Judah, grandson of Jacob, and a twin brother of Pharez-Judah, from whom the new Queen of Judah was descended. After many centuries, these two Royal lines were merged. The Queen died, and is buried at Tara.
Thus was Jeremiah’s commission completed, and the prophecy of Ezekiel 17:22-24 was fulfilled.
The planting and the building of the throne of the LORD in Great Britain was accomplished through the transfer of the Royal line to the Isles of the Sea, over 2,600 years ago.
A Thousand years later, it was taken from Ireland to Iona, and to Scone in Scotland in the 6th century A.D. Tradition about the Stone has persisted unchanged for centuries, and it is more precious to the people of Great Britain than even the Royal Regalia of Scotland. The .Regalia was sent back to Scotland, but the English people would not permit the stone to be returned with the Regalia. The Stone is the symbol of the throne of the LORD, and has become God’s House, as Jacob said at Bethel.
His vow to God at Bethel, became a prophecy fulfilled, for Westminster Abbey became Bethel God’s House. With the desecration of the Abbey taking place over the past few years, God could no longer permit the Rock to remain there. It was taken to Edinburgh Castle in Scotland, with very little fanfare.
The Stone that was carried back to Scotland a few years ago, is still in the hands of Israel people – for the Scottish people are of the tribe of Judah, even as the soon-returning true King of Israel, Jesus the Christ, is of the tribe of Judah.
The tradition in the Westminster Abbey Guide -that the Stone is the One on which Jacob rested, has taken us back 3,700years, and we find that the wandering of Joseph’s birthright people is over, having become the ‘nation and company of nations’ promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, through Jacob’s two grandsons, Ephraim and Manasseh, as Jacob foretold.
Today, we see both these people in great danger from their enemies. The throne of the Lord is being attacked as never before, and a definite assault on the Crown is being put into action, to our great distress. To those who believe that the Bible is the Word of God, there is this heartening message of Psalm 2: “Yet have I set MY Kingupon MY holy hill of Zion”. Also, there is the assurance of the Angel’s words to Mary: Luke 1:32, 33 “The LORD GOD shall give unto Him (Jesus) the throne of His father David, and He shall reign over the house of Jacob (Israel) for ever, and of His Kingdom there shall be no end.”
The continuance of the Throne of David has been guaranteed by the Lord God of Israel. The Stone, the Rock, the LIA FAIL, the symbol of God’s House, and of His Kingdom, is with us as a token of strength and stability.
The Stone Kingdom (Daniel 2:34,35), the fifth world Kingdom of which Daniel prophesied when he told King Nebuchadnezzar of the King’s dream, will yet smite all nations of the Babylonian succession of Empires, and IT will stand forever.
Ahead of us is the time of Jacob’s trouble. (Jeremiah 30:7) The Celto-Saxon nations, if they do not repent from their national sins in turning away from God’s Law, which our ancestors at Mt Sinai promised to obey, will only find themselves in greater tribulation, with life being made very difficult for us, not only here in Canada, but in all countries of the British Commonwealth of nations, and the United States of America and kindred people on the coasts of Europe.
This does not have to be so. God has provided a way of escape for us, in that He wants us, as individuals forming the nations, to come to Him in prayer, and to ask His help, which would be immediately forthcoming. It is God who will fight for us, His Israel people, and set us free from the religious, social, political and economic factors that hold us, and HAVE HELD us, in bondage to an alien system which is soon to meet its doom.
It is this evil system which separates us from the Kingdom of God, soon to be a reality on the earth. We have the promise of the LORD Jesus Christ Himself, that He will come again. He is our Saviour, our Redeemer, and our coming King. It is He who will put down our enemies, and who will rule the earth with a rod of iron – which is the law of God as given to Moses.
The last great episode in the Saga of the Rock, the Coronation Stone, will be complete.
As the Rock was present during Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation, so the Rock will be present at the Coronation of the Great King. The rejoicing will be so great that words will not be able to describe it. It can only be experienced by a people who know that the rightful Ruler has come at last, and that their centuries of bondage are over.
As God told Moses (Exodus 17:6), “I will stand before thee UPON THE ROCK in Horeb,” so at the Coronation of King Jesus, He also will be UPON THE ROCK, which will be present at His Coronation.
Jeremiah 23:5-6 “Behold, the days come,” saith the LORD,”that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. In His days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely, and this is the Name whereby He shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS”.
The Throne, the Stone, and the Houses of Israel and Judah, and the Kingdom of God are awaiting His return to Earth.

And the signs of my father David, on whom was the promise stayed;
Bright as the crown of thedawn, deep as the midnight shade.
Strong as the purpose of God when He fashioned the land from the sea;
A hope for the sons of Adam, that the chosen of Him should be
A King over men forever; yea, unto the LORD’S own day
When the land shall be broken in dust, and the sea shall vanish away.
Upon me was the promise fallen. For me was the Prophet’s toil.
He had signed me with David’s signet, anointed mine head with oil.
He had set mine hands to the harp; he had bidden me hold the spear.
The buckler was girt to my bosom, and Baruch and he drew near
To set my feet upon Bethel, the Stone that is seen this day,
That my seed may rest upon it, where’er it is borne away.
And its promise be sure beneath them strong to uphold their throne,
Though the builders cast it aside, it shall never be left alone.
These things did we at Taphanes ere we fled to the havenof ships,
And the Spirit of God came upon me; His promise rose to my lips.
I spake, and I bade go forward, and the sons of the LORD obeyed,
And the prophet of God bowed down, and this was the song that I made.
