LIVING WITH LOCKDOWN
UK
We live in an age of ugliness and discontent. Nothing is the same as it was only a short while ago.
Suddenly everything has changed and many of us feel that we no longer belong to this world. Everything around us is impersonal and makes us remote from those around us. The final act of this process is the wearing of face masks and social distancing. Whilst it is a necessary protection against this evil potion from the Chinese death laboratory, it has changed people into walking zombies. It is surreal, like a nightmare, but it’s not a nightmare. Tomorrow it will still be with us. We must face the fact that things won’t be the same again for a very considerable time, if ever.
Accuse me of being a ‘Job’s Comforter’, but we have gone too far down the line to recover the status quo. Many times in our island history we have faced the advances of enemies intent upon our destruction. Always, they were thwarted, for we were openly, unashamedly a Christian nation. I well remember the dark days of the 1940s. We faced an evil adversary intent upon our destruction. What Hitler did not take into account was the fact that we asked for the Lord’s help and guidance time and time again. Not only individually but nationally. The queues for Westminster Abbey and churches up and down the land was a wonderful sight to behold. Within hours our wonderful Lord answered those prayers and the tide of battle was turned.
Where is that spirit today? Here a few, there a few, but mostly the people continue oblivious that the answer to our problems is in their hands. A study of our national history will confirm that our wonderful God has never failed to respond to the nation’s petitions.
One of the most significant national promises to Israel was set down in “Isaiah 65:24:Â
“And it shall come to pass that before they call I shall answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear”
Twenty-four seven the Lord is waiting to hear our petitions. He is only too willing to oblige and free our land from this evil curse. You may well ask; how should this request be initiated? It is my belief that it should come from the top, the Queen herself. Her father did so before her in our darkest hour and the Lord graciously answered. Today, we are in the hands of the church leaders to initiate a healing and revival.
Sadly, I am  doubtful if this will happen when I think who we have heading the established church. It does appear that this creeping death will continue stalking the land for a while to come.
So where do we Christians enter the arena? Answer: in and with every available opportunity! We must make it known that the God of our fathers is the same to day and forever and never changes.
Psalm 9:7 “But the LORD shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment.”
Psalm 12:7 “Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shall preserve them from this generation for ever.”
Psalm 29:10 “The LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the LORD sitteth King for ever.”
Psalm 37:28 “For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.”
Psalm 72:17 “His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed.”
Psalm 105:18 ” Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron”
Psalm 119:9 “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.”
Our God is not fickle like man and we can rely on His promises from generation to generation. He patiently awaits the nation’s call!
Will that call be made? We must wait and see!
