CREATION AS RECORDED IN SCRIPTURES
Genesis 1:1-2 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep…
Isaiah 45:18 differs from that for it says: For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.
Here now are two seemingly conflicting statements.
2 Timothy 3:16 states that all scripture is given by the inspiration of God, therefore it would seem that one of those statements in either Genesis 1:2 or Isaiah 45:18 is at fault, or there is an error in translation.
Job in chapter 38:4-7 would imply that when God created the earth, it was not in a state of being “without form and void”. It would support the statement in Isaiah 45:18. Implying that the earth would have for some reason become without form and void. Therefore we need to examine the original Hebrew word from which it was translated.
The original Hebrew word from which the word “was” in Genesis 1:2 has been translated is “hayah”. Presumably, the word “hayah” has been correctly translated as “was” throughout the old testament, however there is one exception and that is found in Genesis 19:26
But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
The word “hayah” is correctly translated here as “became”.
For Genesis 1:2 to conform to both Isaiah 45:18 and Job 38:4-7 it should be written “the earth became without form, and void …”. It would also conform to science, for science believes that the earth is countless thousands of years old if not millions in which dinosaurs, reptiles and other creatures existed even the possibility of mankind only to become extinct because of some form of devastation as implied in verse 2.
In the latter part of vs.2 “And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” is a reference to what is said in Psalm 104:30. You send forth your spirit, they are created: and You renew the face of the earth.
God, in renewing the face of the earth confirms the belief that devastation had occurred and had to be repaired or as the Scriptures say “renewed” or made new again.
The creatures that had existed prior to Adam and Eve were all destroyed and are in no way related to present day creatures and that includes mankind even though there may be some form of likeness. For they had the same designer, God Himself.
Genesis 1:28 in the old King James translation, seems to imply that mankind did exist prior to Adam and Eve for it says in that translation … Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth … In other words repopulate the earth again. In other translations the wording differs in that the translators were not accepting the belief that human life existed prior to Adam and Eve, and rather than the word “replenish”, the word “fill” is used.
As to whether human life existed before Adam and Eve, science should be able to answer that with any human skeleton remains they may uncover, proven to be tens of thousands of years old.
Should they do so then it can be shown in the Bible that those skeleton remains are not of our ancestry since the time of Adam and Eve. Now lets see the proof of that. Turn to Genesis 1:11 which says “according to its kind” and repeated twice again in vs.12 in regard to plant life. Twice again for emphasis in regard to water creatures and winged fowl in vs.21. It is referred to twice in vs.24 and three times in vs.25. Notice the pattern. All these living creatures and plants were developed as the old King James translation says “after their kind”.
But now see here what it says in Genesis 1:26, 27.
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Notice the pattern has changed. God did not make or create man after mankind, as it would have been thousands of years before Adam and Eve. But here in these verses 26 and 27 God made man in the image and likeness of God.
A characteristic of the God kind is that of having dominion over all the other creatures. See that in v.28 and also in Psalm 8:4-8.
Could you possibly say that mankind, should he have existed prior to Adam and Eve had dominion over the creatures on the earth that existed in those prehistoric times?
There is another important point that we need to know about mankind as we know it today, since the time of Adam and Eve, and that is that we are in no way descendants of those of prehistoric times or descendants of apes as evolutionists tend to believe. This may be understood in Ecclesiastes 3:19-21 where it says
“For what happens to the sons of men also happens to animals, one thing befalls them all; as one dies so does the other. Surely they all have one breath, man has no advantage over animals for all is vanity. All go to one place, all are from the dust and all return to dust. Who knows the spirit of the sons of men which goes upward and the spirit of the animal which goes down to the earth.”
This is confirmed again in Ecclesiastes 12:7
“then shall the dust return to the earth as it was and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it”.
This is the difference between we present day humans and that of animals including apes and mankind who may have existed many thousands of years ago.
The question now is, what is this spirit and why does it go upward upon our death whereas it goes downward with animals.
This spirit as it is in all living creatures can be likened to the plan and design of a house about to be built. All the details about the house will be in the plan before a builder can even commence to build it. In it will be the measurements, the type of foundation, where the rooms are, the doors and windows. The type of walls and of the roof. Features of the plumbing and electric wiring would also be given, all the information the builder would want to know before any work could even begin.
So it is with all living creatures. It is this spirit that contains all the necessary details that is given at the precise moment of conception. You may read about this in Psalm 139:13-16. Our parts or substance were fashioned when there was yet none of them. That spirit or design would record our DNA our finger prints, the colour of our skin, or our eyes. There would be recorded our physical features even the hairs of our head would be numbered see Matthew 10:30. See also Jeremiah 1:5.
With a house, should it be destroyed by fire, flood, earthquake or rot from old age, an exact replica could be built by re-using the original plans again. The builder would use totally new materials and not the ruined material of the former house.
The same applies to humanity. Should our life be cut short by accident or sickness or should we live to old age, that spirit at any time from conception to old age would be returned back to God upon our death. There with God to await our resurrection. That is the meaning of the Spirit, upon our death going upward as we read in Ecclesiastes 3. Whereas with other creatures it goes downward to its end. Human life prior to Adam and Eve, the spirit of man in them would have gone downwards as it is with all creatures other than present day humans since the time of Adam and Eve.
All humanity since Adam and Eve will at sometime yet in the future be resurrected and that will include tyrants, murderers, rapists, politicians, theologians, used car salesmen bedsides the victims of murderers who will be there to accuse the murderer as they stand on trial when they will stand before God on their day of judgement.
The Bible mentions in a number of places that we humans will experience a resurrection. Jesus experienced the ultimate resurrection to become a spirit-being. Lazarus experienced a physical resurrection to complete his mortal life.
Job looks forward to this change as can be seen in Job 14:12-15. He is looking forward to God completing the work He (God) had begun in his life.
2 Timothy 3:16 as previously mentioned states that “All scripture is given by the inspiration of God”. God is also the maker and master of all science, therefore the Bible and science are in total harmony. Any apparent confliction would be due to either faulty translation of the Bible or to a lack of understanding of the Bible or science.
This spirit in man is not something that can be seen under a microscope. It is spiritual and therefore not found in a laboratory. It is something that cannot be purchased or manufactured by man. It can only come from God. Any thought of a person having his body totally frozen upon his death with the hope that science can bring him back to life again fails to understand that it requires that spirit that only God can give for life to return.
