CHAPLAIN’S PAGE – “THE WHEEL OF HISTORY”
People may say to you ‘why do you read the Bible and immerse yourself in things that happened thousands of years ago? This is a reasonable question, for it can be argued that we should concern ourselves with current events. Certainly we should, for a well informed Christian is an effective Christian. But this does not mean that we ignore past events, for it is the past that has shaped the present.
To contend that studying the Old Testament is fruitless, is not logical. Certainly we cannot change what has happened, but our knowledge and understanding of the past will give us a clearer insight into current events.
Again, others have argued that we need not concern ourselves with current events, for what has been written in the Scriptures will happen anyway. Certainly they will, but most people are unaware that the Bible is a map, but a map with a difference. It not only shows us the way, but it also shows us where others have gone astray on their journeys. Also, when we study past national and international events which are recorded, we compare them with current events which pinpoint where we stand in the prophetic timetable. There can be no doubt that we have reached a critical stage of our national journey.
How clearly the prophets gave us a word picture of these last days, and no-one could deny where we stand today.
To those who say that it is pointless to immerse ourselves in Old Testament prophecies because we cannot change the past, we agree, we cannot. Although politicians these days are making a considerable effort in re-writing history in order to suit their political agenda. Now they apologise for happenings long before they were born. Each generation must bear the responsibility for their own actions.
The prophet Isaiah enjoined us to look back:
“‘Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the Lord: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged. Look unto Abraham your father and unto Sarah that bare you: for I called him alone, and blessed him and increased him.” (Isaiah 51:1-2)
This command is clear enough, and as identity believers we cannot afford to ignore it. Today, our secular and ecclesiastical leaders in their arrogance are doing things their way, thus ignoring the great truth.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.” (Isaiah 55:8)
Today we have six thousand years of history to learn from, and have we? Surely it must be obvious to all and sundry that affairs in our nation are a shambles. In fact, we are making bigger mistakes than ever before, because we have the technology to do so.
Yet a further reason to look back to our roots and our history is found in Proverbs 29 and verse 28:
“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”
Today, we have lost that essential vision which is necessary both for the individual and the nation. Our secular leaders are expunging every trace of our roots, our history and our lineage, and have put us in bondage under those who have not even been elected by us. Truly Ephraim is like a silly dove!
Notice what the text says: “he that keepeth the law, happy is he”. The myriad of laws now on our Statute books are not the laws that the Lord commanded us to obey. Can it truthfully be said that today’s generation is happy? Even those in charge of our children’s education have woken up to the fact that all is not well, and children are now being made to attend what they are pleased to call ‘Happiness classes’. True happiness comes from within, and not by being told to be happy.
Our wonderful Lord expressed what true joy really is:
“These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.” (John 15:11)
If the childrens’ Happiness classes are based upon that, all we parents and grandparents would be most happy.
It could well be that those classes are built upon social engineering. They will no doubt be taught their rights, but what of their responsibilities? Like so much of what
man does these days, it is the antithesis of our Lord’s teaching.We should all read His discourse to the people, recorded in Matthew chapters five to seven. His words were not to make us feel good about ourselves. They were focused upon our attitude in life in order that we may glorify God.
Today, if our faith is real to us, and we are prepared to stand and be counted, we must expect to have to suffer. We live in a society that has abandoned its Christian roots. The average person is ignorant of the basic facts of our faith. The words ‘sin’ and ‘repentance’ have no meaning. This means that we have no starting, common ground in order to approach them. Political engineering has so arranged things that it is to peoples’ advantage to live in sin. And thousands are financially better off not to work, even if they are able to. Farnily life has been eroded because of the necessity of both parents working in order to have a roof over their heads. This is a far cry from what the Lord planned for the nation. Truly Satan has done his work well.
The present state of our nation has only come about because we have allowed it as the result of apathy. We are now paying the price.
“Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus.”
