A DAUGHTER OF KINGS
A CORRESPONDENT has asked me to explain the descent of Queen Elizabeth II and to outline her lineage, “as a matter of public interest.”
Another correspondent, much earlier, requested me to clarify a column of some weeks ago in which I referred to King George VI as deriving from King David of Israel.
These two questions are really one. And this is the reply I would make to them: that in Her Majesty is focused almost all the royal lines of medieval and ancient times, and that she can number among her ancestors nearly all the royal heroes of history, including David of Israel.
Within historical times, her lineage of course is clear and definite.
By the mother of George I, she is a Stuart. By Margaret of Scotland, she is a Tudor. By Owen Tudor, she is Welsh. By the wife of Henry VII and by the mother of Henry VIII, she is descended from the Lancastrian John of Gaunt.
By Elizabeth of York, she is a Plantagenet. By the Empress Maud, she is a Norman. By the Queen of Henry I and by her own mother, she is a Scot. By the Queen of King Malcolm, she is a descendant of Edgar, Athelstan and Alfred the Great. Through them, she derives from the hero gods of the Saxons, including Odin and Frea, who dwelt about the mouth of the Elbe.
Through Queen Alexandra, of the House of Skiold, she is of the Danish line of Canute.
This Danish line is interesting because it goes back to the ancient Kings of Britain, including Lear, (of Shakespearean fame), Arthur of the Round Table and Aeneas who was the subject, of course, of Virgil’s Aeneid.
Queen Mary’s line is of equal antiquity and goes back through Charlemagne, Charles Martel, Pepin the Great, Pharamond, first King of France, and the ancient royal house of Troy. She and the present Queen number among their ancestors Hector and Priam of Trojan war history.
Both the late King and Queen Mother Elizabeth are descended from a long line of Scottish and Irish monarchs, including Robert the Bruce, Kenneth McAlpin and back to Tamar, daughter of King Zedekiah, who, of course, was descended through Solomon from David, Pharez, Judah, Jacob, Isaac, and Abraham.
The Virgin Mary and Yahshua our Saviour were also descended from David through Nathan.
