WHAT ABOUT THE 70th WEEK OF DANIEL?

By

IS this 70th week still future? The so-called Fundamentalists declare that it is. How about it?

The Scripture relating to the 70 weeks of years is found in DANIEL 9:24-27. The weeks are weeks of years, and the much-talked about 70th week is therefore a period of 7 years which terminates the full 70 weeks.

The Futurists declare that this 70th week, or 7 years’ period, is yet to come, and will be the time of what they call “the great tribulation.” Now the Bible does speak of a time of great tribulation, but it nowhere calls it THE great tribulation, nor does the Bible say that it will be the 70th week of Daniel’s prophecy.

If you will but read DANIEL 9:24-27, you will note that it says that 7 weeks and 3 score and 2 weeks is the time to elapse before the Messiah appears. Now 7 plus 62 equals 69. And the prophecy tells us that AFTER the 7 weeks and 62 weeks have elapsed the Messiah was to be “cut off” or crucified. May I ask you, what follows 69? Is it not 70?? Of course it is. Therefore, it was in that 70th week that Jesus Christ, the Messiah was crucified.

Now, if the Fundamentalists are correct in their dogmatic teaching that the 70th week is still future, then Christ is not yet crucified – no atonement for sin has been made as yet. If they are correct, then the preaching of what Christ did at Calvary some I900 years ago is but a myth, for the 70th week in which He was to be cut off has not yet arrived, according to them.

Ifyou will note verse 24 of this prophecy, you will see that everything mentioned in that verse took place in the ministry, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Messiah. And none of it could be accomplished until Christ’s first advent. And please remember that it was after 69 weeks had elapsed that we come “unto Messiah the Prince.” Therefore He appeared in the 70th week, exactly as the prophecy declares, and was cut off in the midst of the week.

Then there is no 70th week of Daniel yet to come. It became history way-back there over 1900 years ago.
