SELLING OUR BIRTHRIGHT

By

WE ARE SELLING OUR BIRTHRIGHT. In the present situation we are dominated by the largely Roman Catholic European Community and the Christian Democratic parties on the Continent. As a result we are under their laws, subject to their courts and decisions. We are back where we were before the Reformation.

Then, we were subject to the Roman Canon Law which was dictated from Rome. Now, we are in bondage under the Treaty of Rome. It is possible that laws will be passed prohibiting speakers from saying anything that is critical of the Roman Catholic Church or of any of the false religions of the ethnic minorities among us. This would put our work in a very difficult position.

Many evangelicals are not aware of this danger, they are of the opinion that all we have to do is to preach the Word, they are not prepared to earnestly contend for the faith.

In some ways we are subject to taxation by the European Community just as we were subject to the Papal “Peter’s Pence” and other dues laid on us by the Vatican before the Reformation.

In the days of Henry VII Parliament complained to the monarch that five times the revenue of the Crown was paid out to the Roman Church and its institutions abroad, foreign monastic orders and Bishops as well as the Pope.

By the late Rev. A. George Ashdown writing in THE REFORMER, Jan/Feb 1996.
